This letter is to recommend Tom Garvey as an outstanding programmer analyst. I have worked as a Product Market Analyst/Tester at SSA for over five years. In the course of that time, I have had occasion to evaluate the work of many programmers. Tom has been one of the best. His RPG and AS/SET skills are excellent. This became apparent immediately and he was given some of the most complex programs to work on while he was at SSA. Regardless of the application area, he always came through with the correct solution.
In addition to his programming skills, his ability to analyze a problem and think beyond the immediate obvious answer to consider other areas of impact was exceedingly important because of the integrated program areas he worked in. You could trust that his fix to an existing application was not going to cause "bugs" in other areas.
Tom also is a very reliable individual. Regardless of the amount of pressure or stress, Tom was always there and working steadily. His presence was a calming factor.
Tom also is very generous and capable about sharing knowledge. I have seen him work with beginning programmers and he has good communication skills and patience for training others.
In summary, I would highly recommend Tom Garvey as a consultant for any type of business needing assistance with their computer system.
